i am 38 weeks pregnant and my doctor put me on bed rest and told me not to get up at all unless i have to pee because she said my blood pressure is a little high and they keep checking the protein in my urine and when it gets to be more than 300 then they have to induce. why do i have to stay in bed? what could happen if i dont stay in bed all the time? what causes high blood pressure?
anything can cause high blood pressure. when my grandpa had a heart attack he was on bed rest and not able to walk around unless he had help for a long time after as if he got up his blood pressure would go up and it caused alot of problems. when your heart starts going from being active that can do it.

I had that and didn’t rest enough so I ended up in the hospital for a week before they induced. High blood pressure can lead to and be a symptom of pre-eclampsia which is dangerous but sometimes just happens in pregnancy. The only cure is delivering the baby. Please do rest. If you are too active and your bp spikes too high, it can cause you to have a stroke, or pass out and fall, both of which are dangerous to you and the baby. So, rest up, mama! Your baby will be here soon and, believe me, you’ll wish you had time to rest!

High blood pressure in pregnancy is different than normal high blood pressure. I know it seems weird to be put on restricted activity, but it’s because having high blood pressure in pregnancy can restrict the oxygen getting to the baby. If you do too much, not enough oxygen will get to the baby through blood supply.
I have had high blood pressure since about 18 weeks and I have been on house arrest, oops I mean rest, since 20 weeks. It sucks but so far baby is very healthy (in the 90th percentile) so I know it’s working.
They are not really sure what causes high blood pressure in pregnancy, but some triggers can be from being over weight, runs in the family, or a heart condition or you had high blood pressure before pregnancy. I have it because I have always had a heart murmur and my heart is really not liking pregnancy (not liking the extra blood flow) so they think that’s why my blood pressure is high (I have never had a problem with it before)
