Which cold medications are not recommended for people who are on high blood pressure medication?

Are there any herbal meds that are safe and effective?

I have hypertension too and the only meds I can take for colds and flu are Coricidin HBP and Robetussin DM.

You can also try vinegar and honey mixture for sore throat and gargling with warm salt water.

Sniffing salt water or getting a saline solution in a spray bottle.

I’m not sure which are not recommended, but there is a product called Coricidin HBP (high Blood Pressure). It’s specifically designed for people with HBP. I would ask your local pharmacist. I also would take a trip to an organic grocery store like Whole Foods, and speak to the Hollistic Health Rep. They may know some great herbal meds for people with HBP. Best of luck.

My Husband got got over a horrible virus. No nasal sprays, only the Ocean Spray. Things with Pseudoerphedrine, like Sudafed, that has this one ingredient that could rocket your blood pressure. He used Zicam & mucinex. Ask pharmacist before you buy. Also check cough medicines…

Talk to the pharmacist before you buy any medicines. Same with herbal remedies. Some of those can cause bad reactions when mixed with medications, too.

I just recently a commercial for a certain brand of cold medicine that described itself safe for people on high blood pressure medication (though I cannot remember the name of it). Ask the pharmacist, they’ll surely be able to steer you in the right direction.

I go through this all the time. Get sick of reading the small print. Mucinex is the best product I have found for the congestion. I can also use generic Benadryl and Claritin. Claritin is like buying tablet gold. When I feel the beginnings of a cold, I megadose on Vitamin C to the tune of almost 3000 mg a day. I also gargle with mild salt water and as disgusting as it may sound, I gargle til I spit the phlegm out of my throat. Cough suppressants only stifle the congestion and mucous that has to come out. Until that mucous is out of your system, the germs just multiply. Taking a hot tub with a sage bag helps immensely. Sage pulls the fever out of your body plus the nice hot bath feels good. Put sage in a tea ball or a cotton wrap so that the sage isnt loose in the tub. Allow the hot water to run over the sage bag or ball while the tube is filling. Finally, white tea or green tea with honey and lemon will soothe your throat and help you to sleep. For night time sleep you still cant beat the old fashioned vaporizer with eucalpytus leaves in the water. Thank God I havent had a cold in two years. There is also plantain tea that can be bought at a health or herb store which is also good. Plantain is nature’s strongest natural antibiotic on the market. I collect it out of my yard in the summer, dry it and have it on hand. Very common weed. Usually plenty of it around to harvest and dry.
