What causes high blood pressure on a young adult 23 years of age?

It was up to 167/110 and has remained hi for the past couple of days. I"m being tested and am on meds, but wont find out anything for a week.

What would be common reasons for this at my age?

Too much Salt, and stress will cause it also.

I am not saying you have this, but kidney problems can cause high blood pressure if they are not functioning as they are supposed to.

it could be stress or obesity, it coud be something as simple as too much salt intake. wait for the tests

American Food is the cause

Our bodies were not made to eat this way.
Cut out white sugar-white flour-fried foods- and processed foods
eat fish every week and red meat or chicken only 1 time a month

Increase your fruits and veggies- eat them raw in salads and smoothies
Increase whole grains like Brown rice & steel cut oatmeal

And follow this rule if your food looks nothing like what it came from its no longer good for you.

After a few weeks the points should go down and a few months you should be normal and not to mention other health benefits as well

High blood pressure is sometimes hereditary.(in the family)
What you are eating, being overweight and stress can cause high blood pressure.
Try eating healthy whole foods like vegetables, fruit, whole wheat pasta, milk, almonds and drink 8 glasses of water a day. Get moderate exercise daily(walking is great)
Best Of Luck

It could be your family history. A doctor should check for secondary causes of hypertension first. This includes a kidney scan.

It is usually caused by poor diet, lack of exercise and obesity. That being said, it may just be in your genes.

I have had high blood pressure since I was 26. I am thin, I eat healthy and exercise. I have had a million tests and they can't find anything wrong with me. I take meds to keep it lower, but its still higher than normal.
