Most people who have high blood pressure should limit the sodium in their diet each day to less than 2,400 mg. In addition to that there are other ways to get your pressure down. Here are a few.

Weight

Weight Loss- Why even losing a few pounds can lower your blood pressure naturally. If you think you’re overweight find out what your natural weight should be. Losing the excess weight usually helps lower blood pressure. Physical activity is important in controlling weight and improving the overall health of your body and your heart’s efficiency. Getting down to a comfortable weight also increases you metabolism and gives you extra energy.

Exercise

Exercise- The right prescription for hypertension, regular aerobic exercise is a key ingredient to lowering your blood pressure. It is likely to reduce depression and anxiety and help you to better manage stress. Usually 30 minutes of moderate exercise does the trick.

Limit your sodium, alcohol and caffeine intake. While some foods obviously have a lot of sodium, such as potato chips, you may not realize how much sodium is in things like bread and cheese. So make sure you read product labels to give you an idea of how much sodium you getting.

Eating

Eating potassium-rich foods is important for maintaining a healthy balance of minerals and for keeping blood pressure low. This approach to stopping hypertension involves eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and other foods that are heart healthy and lower in salt/sodium. Not only does this emphasize good eating habits, but also suggests healthy alternatives to “junk food” and discourages the consumption of processed foods.

Massage provides deep relaxation lessening your muscle tension and lowering your blood pressure (by reducing heart and pulse rates). Massage increases your mental clarity, heightens mental alertness, and revitalizes your mind. Massage therapy increases blood supply, oxygen, and nutrition to muscle tissue, joints, and the vital organs, and improves circulation throughout the body.

Daily physical activity can help prevent heart disease and stroke by strengthening your heart muscle therefore, lowering your blood pressure. After all is said and done you can’t put a price on your self-esteem or lowering your blood pressure or getting rid of pain. If your heart can work less to pump, the force on your arteries decreases, lowering your blood pressure. If you are already on medication and want to consider natural alternatives, consult with you doctor before stopping you medication.

high blood pressure question?
I went to my doctor last tuesday, and my blood pressure was 140/90. Now, I must say that I am obese, but I have cut out all the junk food and fast food from my diet, drastically reduced my sodium intake, eating more fruit and veggies, and exercising more (I’m using the stationary bike and my mini step and I am powerwalking). I am also drinking more water and none of the sugary stuff like soda. My dr. gave me a month, to see if my pressure goes down. There are other factors though: I have been taking allergy medication, like Alavert and claritin, and I have been stressed lately, and my cholestrol level is 161 (down from 239) but my triglycerides is 178 (a bit high)

My question is: besides, the things I mentioned above, what else can I do to lower my blood pressure. FYI: I also have a juicer , so if you have any natural juice receipes I could use that would lower my b.p. that will be great.
no pets at home; I am allegeric to pet dander
I forgot to mention that my doctor gave me a month to lower my pressure on my own without meds. Also, does me being anemic (because I am) has anything to do with the high blood pressure?

just relax. Stressing out isn’t going to help you any.

Alavert and claritin won’t raise blood pressure, but decongestants like sudafed will. Meditation is good for stress, but so is the exercise. Sounds like you’re on the right track, though, good luck!

Yoga…or meditation. Do you own a pet? Sitting with your pet, loving it (petting), watching your fish swim in a fish tank…listening to some quiet peaceful music…

I honestly think you are off to a good start. Keep up the program and I’m sure you will see results. The big picture depends on you staying with a healthy program. And if you still have to go on meds to control the blood pressure – so be it – but still STAY WITH THE HEALTHY PROGRAM!

It sounds like you are doing all that you can. Keep up the good work and when you go back to the doc if your pressure is not down, you may have to take a diuretic or even a mild antihypertensive. I think it is wonderful that you are acutally trying to fix the problem with healthy living, most people would rather just take a pill! Keep up the good work!
