Is it Normal to have these symptoms with High Blood Pressure?

Im a 19 y/o male and I recently went to the doctor and my bp was 160/90 or so and said I had high bp so he put me on medication for a few weeks. Well I went in there cause I had been having chest pain, a qucik heartbeat, and what has felt like shortness of breath. I havent been able to figure out these symptoms in relation to the high blood pressure…is chest pain and shortness of breath which has been the most bothersome symptoms of high b.p?

Also, these symptoms all started after a stress test I had taken 2 weeks ago.

Additional Details
I have already gone to the doctor and I explained to him my chest pain, shortness of breath so he definitely knows already.
I am in good shape, i workout at the gym everyday, have 6% body fat and am 6’2 170 lbs.
No family history of heart disease just my mom has high blood pressure also.

No, but you can develop them after long periods of UNTREATED high blood pressure.
You need a cardiac workup – chest pain, shortness of breath, and abnormal heartbeat are all signs of HEART DISEASE [ more so if you have more than one ].
Are you obese?
Out of shape?
Family history of heart disease?
Was the stress test part of a cardiac workup? If not,
see a new doc ASAP!!!

Yes, those symptoms can be because of high bp. So are headaches and dizziness.

Your symptoms are indicative of something worse than simple hypertension going on . The hypertension is just another symptom, and if your heartbeat is rapid, and you’re having chest pains, it can be pretty serious–possibly a heart or circulation defect. As long as you’re under a doctor’s care–that’s good–that’s where you need to be.
Asking your questions here probably won’t alleviate your stress or your curiosity.

Hi,
I just went through the same thing. These are side-effects of the medication. I was on Lisonopril and Spirolectone and Metropolol. Spirolectone is a Diuretic (sp) and will make you pee. Less liquid equals less blood…lower blood pressure.
You’ve already had the stress test and they’ve ruled out the heart.

I went back to my doctor and she sent me to a kidney specialist (High Blood Pressure can be a result of Kidney problems, as well as cause them). That doctor helped.

Look up your medications on http://www.drugs.com. Read carefully…it will help.
