I take high blood pressure medication and it is still high ?

42 year old male, non smoker, non drinker, average weight, reasonable diet and exercise. I started taking the meds five years ago which brought it to a normal level, and now for the last few months it has averaged 146 over 98. I’m not real fond of doctors visits, so any ideas on what to do ? Are those numbers that bad ?
I am anglo and take lisinopril.

Your second number is too high. Doctors want that below 90. Actually, you could get both of your numbers below what they are.

What you do not say is what medicines you are taking for BP and/or for other things at the same time. You also don’t state your race, which is important because blacks more often have BP problems than whites.

If you care about living without fear of a heart attack, you should find a doctor that you like and stay with him.

You can decrease the sodium in your diet, exercise, stress relieving activities. Unfortunately, some people have to take several different blood pressure medications to control high blood pressure. If your blood pressure does not come down with nonpharmaceutical measures, you might have to see your doctor. The alternative is to wait until your high blood pressure starts to damage your kidneys or until you have a stroke before you see your doctor. Good luck!
