An associate of mine of normal weight and blood pressure, got pregnant and developed high blood pressure throughout her pregnancy. The moment she gave birth, the BP went back to normal. The doctor told her she should never get pregnant again. Against his advice, she got pregnant again and the high blood pressure not only came back but it stayed and has been with her since. Still a fairly normal weight, her BP can be normal one day and way the next. Any ideas on what could be causing this? It even has her doctors stumped.

A lot of times high bp is idiopathic, meaning doctors don’t know the cause of it. A lot of women get preeclampsia or high bp during p/g it’s quite common. As to why the high bp stayed with her after p/g there’s no telling. Even just a 10% weight gain can affect bp as well as salt, caffeine ect.. If your friend loses a bit of weight, cuts salt out of her diet and stops any and all caffeine she might see improvement. But otherwise she may just need to take a simple bp med from now on. I myself have high bp and have had it for 6 years and i’m only 28. My weight is a factor and my history as a bulimic affects it too, but even when i was skinny i still had high bp. I just accept it and work to keep it down with medication, diet, exercise, and no salt or caffine. People can live long healthy lives on bp med sif necessary. It’s not a huge life altering crisis..

my mum has high blood pressure.what could be the possible causes ? it gets me worried so plz tell me a solution that i can present to her.
she is 41 years old.
she drinks 2 cups of tea a day
her height is 5′4.
in breakfast she eats 2 pieces of whole wheat bread with a cup of tea
in the afternoon she eats a white tortilla with gravy and meat
for dinner she also eats white tortilla with gravy and meat or potatoes sumtimes.
she is standing most of the time.its part of her job.
she eats fruit
she is takin iron pills these days due to deficieny

As to the causes of high blood pressure there are a lot of various factors that influence blood pressure such as -
Age ( as you get older the risk of high blood pressure increases)
Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.
Obesity, lack of exercise and high amount of salt and fat in your diet.
Stress and family history can also influence blood pressure.
Treatment for high blood pressure will depend on your blood pressure levels and your associated risk of developing a cardiovascular disease, such as a stroke, if your Mothers blood pressure is only slightly high and the risk of cardiovascular disease are low, then there is no need to worry as this is common and can be altered by simply making lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, reducing alcohol intake, reducing caffeine intake to less than five cups a day, eating a healthy low fat balanced diet, taking up regular exercise for 30 minutes per day and losing weight if you are overweight. If your mothers blood pressure is moderately high, her GP can offer treatment which is proven to be effective. so there is No need to worry

Bipolar has many definitions, all of which can affect a person lot as well as their family. One of the definitions is that a person diagnosed with the bipolar disorder has alternating experiences of extreme elations coupled with deep depression. Another form of bipolar is Manic Depression which is characterised by episodes of deep depression, that is accompanied with one manic episode.

Bipolar disorder is said to affect a person’s thought patterns, behaviour, feelings and their perception of things around them. Professional put this down to chemical imbalances and electrical elements of the brain, as it is not functioning normally. Others say that this is a mental illness which can run in the family, so people are more proned to getting this disorder if there is a medical history of bipolar disorder running in the family or any other mental illness.

Many types of medications are offered to bipolar patients, and not everyone is comfortable with having to take the daily doses continually for some time. There are those who prefer to supplement or to use alternative therapies which are deemed healthier than using prescribed medication.

1. Omega 3

Research shows that Omega 3 which is found in fish oils and in many other fishes is good for anyone with a mental illness and bipolar. One significant research involving 30 bipolar patients was conducted over four months. It was done to show comparisons of the efficacy of Omega 3 against olive oil or placebo for treating bipolar disorder. Researchers believe that this disorder is a neuropsychatric illness with high mortality and morbidity. They proved at their preliminary study that Omega 3 was much better in performance for longer remissions, as based on the symptom severity which is on four scales. Studies are continuous in the hope of finding new classes of the psychotropic compounds, so that they can be utilised as mood stabilisers to help sufferers.

2. Herbal

Herbal supplements are preferred by many people as an alternative to taking prescribed drug medications due to their beliefs, or as a healthy option. Not all herbs are ideal for treating bipolar disorder, as some herbs can in fact worsen the condition in a patient. Taken with some drugs, herbal supplements can have a harmful reaction. You should always consult your doctor before taking herbal medication with any other drugs.

3. Diet and Nutrition

For treating depression, holistic doctors will suggest that you use B-Complex, Magnesium and Thiamin as part of your diet. Organise your menus every day and check that you have adjusted your diet accordingly, so that your body receives the necessary nutrients to regain your good health again.

4. Counselling with your Pastor

Whatever your religion, if you are suffering from Bipolar Disorder, it is a good idea to talk to your vicar, pastor, priest or rabbi, rather than to a therapist. During difficult times, your religious community can be a great help at comfort. Spirituality and prayers are recognised by the community, and also as part of your medication and psychotherapy sessions.

5. Art Therapy

Joining in expressive therapies are especially good for those who mostly stay at home. Art helps you to express yourself freely without any inhibitions. You may want to enrol in classes like Drawing, Watercolours, Oil Painting, Sculpting and many other Arts. Look around locally to see what classes are available in art or expressive therapies.

For those who enjoy movement, there is dance therapy. Your cognitive, emotional and physical wellbeing is catered for as your feet move into action and lift your spirits.

How about sound or music therapy? Listening to soothing music can help anyone relax. The chemical in your body will react so that your blood pressure, improves along with your breathing and pulse rate; and even your posture will change.

6. Traditional Medicine

For emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing there are traditional medicines, some of which are culturally based. These include Acupuncture, Yoga, Reiki, Shiatsu, Ayurveda, Qigong which are all popular examples of Healing Arts, based on the belief that any imbalance in your body will cause illness.

By combining all these alternative therapies and medications a person with bipolar may be treated effectively, and bring their body back into balance by nature. You should always consult a doctor if you encounter any problems, and any prescribed medication should be continued with unless it is making you worse in which case, a doctor will change course. Your doctor will be able to advise you on alternative medicines.

I spent a week in hospital after severely high blood pressure. After many tests i was put onto Amlodipine after a few days. When i left hospital i felt totally drained & had to take a couple of weeks off work. While returning home, in the evening of my first day back at work, i had a road traffic accident & my car was written off but i was ok. Immediately before the accident i experienced a "bright flash" in my peripheral vision which led to me taking avoiding action & hitting a roadside barrier!
I was told that the "bright flash" would have been a result of the blood vessels in my brain reducing after coping with such a high blood pressure!
Has anyone out there experienced anything like this, is it common and how do i learn more about it?
Thank you.

First off all, Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker, they are one of the more newer medicines which help reduce blood pressure. Problem with what your telling me really is that no one is on your case investigating what exactly is causing your hypertension.

FIrst step for you to do is see a cardiologist and have a proper examination done. A ultra sound of your renal arteries, kidney, abdomen, heart and valves is required. Then they have to do a full blood test look at your cholesterol and electrolyte levels, and further do a rennin and aldosterone test to determine what exactly is happening. You really have to get to the bottom of whats happening, but suffice you to say calcium channel blockers are somewhere in the better medications you can take for blood pressure. They should work instantly and have minimal side effects. There is a drug called Norvasc that may be worth looking into.

Blood pressure drugs in general cause side effects but generally they far outweigh the consequence of not taking them.

If its hitting you in the brain and causing light flashes then its time for you to grab a blood pressure machine and keep a eye out on it. A immediate diet change is required, look at the back of labels for sodium and cholesterol content, keep it as low as you can. No more then about 1000-1500mg of sodium a day, add it up and make sure you pay attention to exactly what your eating. No take away what soever and get something like flora proactive to eat everyday with whole meal bread.

You may try a fish oil tablet 500mg a day would be fine, you don’t want to dis balance the HDL and LDL levels, but it may help reduce your BP if you don’t have enough omega 3.

Sugar is out of the question too, the only sugar from now on should be consumed from fruits, maybe get a blender or a juicer, they are gold. Lean meats are ok, but for now better go green and have plenty of servings.

The main concern really for you at this moment is trying to maintain your condition as best as you can while you get your blood pressure down. You can’t keep going with ridicules blood pressure because eventually the body will fall apart and you could have a stroke.

For now, take it easy, slow down, and get some referrals happening by your local doctor. Try to get in contact with at least one cardiologistl/renal specialist at a phd professor level. Most of the regular guys have never had hypertension so they have no real care about how your being treated.

Hope it helps!

Almost everyone will at some point in their life, experience some form of constipation. Usually a poor diet is the culprit. This is very important…constipation is a symptom not a disease.

Please keep in mind that you are not alone. It is estimated that here in the united States over 4 million suffer from frequent bouts of constipation. More than $700 million is spent on non prescribed laxatives and medicine, with 2.5 million trips to the doctor. Constipation is a serious threat to your health. It is a warning sign that your style of living needs some change. Especially if you are getting up in age like I am.
The one thing that most doctors won’t tell you is that all these drugs and over the counter laxatives, can and will do serious harm to your body.

The colon, or large intestine absorbs water from food while it creates waste or stool. Ideally, the muscle in the colon will push the stool toward the rectum. On this journey the stool becomes solid because most the water has been absorbed. To much absorption of water results in constipation. It is known that constipation is responsible for many colon diseases such as hemorrhoids, colitis, diverticulosis, IBS, varicose veins, and possibly colon cancer. It is important that you know that the origin of many diseases in the body come from a constipated colon.

So how do we get and maintain a healthy colon? A healthy colon means no constipation. Here are a few facts that will help you understand what causes constipation. Knowledge that will put your mind at rest, and guide you to begin to relieve or alleviate your constipation.
1.People who include high fiber in their diet are less likely to be constipated.
2.Drinking water and juices will add fluid to the colon and thus bulk to the stool.
3. Try to stay active, especially as you get older.
4.Stop taking laxatives. Seek out and find natural remedies.

There are many who claim to have the one cure that everyone is searching for. How would you like over 70 natural remedies to choose from? That is what you get with Natural Nutritional Consultant, Rudy Silva’s book. He suffered from constipation for many years. After doing significant research, he found that there are 77 natural methods to relieve, prevent or completely rid you of constipation. Combining this information with his own experiences and those of his nutritional clients, he wrote:
Discover How You can Eliminate Constipation Step By Step In 7 Days

In it you will learn;
How constipation causes back pain ( page 168)
What 12 things you need know to really prevent constipation
(page 195)
What foods you need to avoid to prevent constipation from coming back (page 200) and many more helpful hints.
If nothing else sign up for 10 FREE e-lessons;
