Any irritation to the structure of the neck and head can lead to a person experiencing a headache. Furthermore, the sensation of pain can transmit it through associated nerves to other parts of the body such as a neck pain that can cause a person to suffer from a headache as well. No doubt, everybody is liable to have suffered from a headache at some point of time in their lives since it is indeed a very common illness.
“Fight Or Flight” Responses
The types of headaches are many and so too are the causes of headaches, and this is the reason why headaches come about so frequently and there are also instances of recurring headaches that are caused by many different factors. Perhaps the most common cause of headaches is stress which can cause a person to feel a ‘fight or flight’ feeling that usually is accompanied by shallow breathing as well as raised heart rate as well as high blood pressure. Even adrenaline amounts will shoot up and cause a person to experience a headache.
If you do not eat the proper food you will be more likely to suffer a headache as diet as well as sensitivity to food is another major cause of headache, especially the migraine headache. You may suffer from a headache because of variations in the blood sugar levels, or because of withdrawal of caffeine, or because of food additives.
Sometimes a dental abscess can be the cause of headache, especially following extraction when an infection may appear and there may be difficulty with your jaw joints that will cause local pain that is then transmitted to the face and head causing a headache. Even when your teeth are not properly aligned, you will still be at risk of getting a headache; so you need to get a dentist to look into this matter and find a proper treatment for it.
Hormones are what allow a person to experience pain, and sex hormones are believed to play an important role in causing a headache, especially in women before, or immediately after their menstrual period. If the sex hormone levels are low when menstruation is taking place, women may suffer a headache.
Persons with impaired vision will also be at risk of having a headache as this is a common cause of headache, especially when they need to squint, or strain their eye muscles in order to focus their eyes. Even glaucoma which is an eye disease can be a cause of headaches as they refer pain into the head’s structure.
You can also find that headaches come about due to a disorder in the ear, nose or throat and common causes of headaches include sinus headaches, labyrinthitis, infections and traumas. Even damage to a person’s nerves can be considered to be a cause of headaches.

May 1st, 2010 — causes of high blood pressure
I’ve had depression for several years (been treated with medications), but I’ve noticed that whenever I’m feeling more depressed, my blood pressure goes up. Right now I’m 15 weeks pregnant and have been feeling pretty depressed recently. The last couple times I’ve been to my obstetrician, my blood pressure has been way up. The doctor is concerned about my BP since I’m pregnant. I was just wondering if depression can lead to high blood pressure. Thanks.
Absolutly. What do we do when we are depressed….worry, stress!!! Our breathing becomes more labored and chemicals are relased into out bodies and we don’t even know it. It’s a viscious cycle. Also not sleeping well can really be bad for your blood pressure. Try getting good restfull undesturbed sleep. Meditate, listen to enya or hypnosis on your mp3 at night. Try to relax any way possible! Good Luck!

The current society is in a period of great stress upon the family. The stress is attributable to three factors namely: the rural-urban migration due to the impact of industrialization; the sexual revolution which has altered the values and role concepts of couples, and the impact of harsh economy in terms of high cost of living which has compelled the womenfolk to join the labour market.
Apart from the above, there are some other seemingly innocuous factors that also contribute to family stress. These factors are so fundamental that they constitute remote causes of marital distress. If the foundation is weak, the entire structure will be defective. Failure to address these fundamental issues has been the bane of many marriages. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to identify seven of these factors and proffer solutions so that those who are currently experiencing marital distress may find solutions, and others who are not may learn from the experience of others
Causes of Marital Stress
(i) Marriage relationships that were contracted when both partners were ungodly.
A family that has no time for God, or does not believe in godliness is laying a foundation for marital distress. Such family will have no place to go spiritually during the storms of life since it has no prior relationship with God.
A couple that has no relationship with God cannot obey the will of God concerning their lives, neither will they obey the biblical injunctions on marital issues. For instance, virtues like forgiveness, patience, kindness, endurance, love cannot have meaning to them. So, to get married to an ungodly partner is an invitation to marital distress. The Bible states clearly that there is no fellowship between light and darkness (II Corinthians 6:14). Therefore, consequences of leaving God out of the choice of a partner far outweigh the gains.
(ii) Marriages based on accidental pregnancy.
Another cause of marital distress nowadays is accidental pregnancy. Many people are forced to marry because of accidental pregnancy. A situation like this gives no room for the adequate preparations that characterize the establishment of an ideal home. These include introduction, courtship, engagement, and wedding. These can be regarded as probationary periods during which the two partners would study themselves, find out areas of disagreement and carry out adjustments as may be necessary.
(iii) Sex before marriage.
Premarital sex is another foundation for marital distress. The Bible clearly commands that the marriage bed be undefiled (Hebrews 13:4). Disobedience to this command is a sin of fornication, which attracts punishment one of which is marital distress. So, if you violate God’s Word through the sin of fornication, you cannot expect God’s blessings in your marriage.
(iv) Marriages contracted after demonic consultation.
Whenever some young fellows inform their parents about whom they intend to marry. The parents would collect the names of such would-be spouses for checkup with local witch doctors. By this action the prospective couple is introduced to the devil unknowingly, and the young family becomes vulnerable to demonic manipulations, which will end up in marital distress.
(v) Marriages enforced by parents.
Some parents, anxious to see their children get married, force them into injurious marital relationships. They do this by marrying off their girl-child to either some wealthy businessman, traditional ruler, or someone from a particular profession e.g. lawyer, medicine, accountancy. The girl-child, unable to make any decision in this process, will grow up sometimes in her husband’s houses. Marriages contracted under such pressure cannot but end up in distress, because the basic ingredients of marriage, like love, are missing.
(vi) Marriage based on blood covenants.
Many young people blindly go into covenants to prove their loyalty to each other. For instance, one such covenant is by cutting selves with razor blades and forming terrible blood covenants without knowing the implication of what they are doing. Such covenants are foundations of marital distress, especially when they are unable to keep the covenant terms for one reason or the other by marrying other partner.
(vii) Marriages based on physical attraction and material interest.
Physical attraction cannot sustain a marriage, because beauty fades with age, and appearance cannot give lasting satisfaction. Similarly, a marriage based on material wealth only will not last. It is good to live a comfortable life, but a home established only on physical attraction and materialism is a foundation for marital distress. When these are gone there will be nothing to sustain the marriage in the storms of life.
The Way Out
The success of a marriage is directly proportional to the strength of its foundation. The fear of God is the beginning of a successful marriage. The day you become a child of God, your life is taken away from a bad foundation and placed on Jesus the solid Rock, and with Him your marriage will never fail.
It is possible that your foundation was really bad; but you do not have to worry. God can change your foundation if you cooperate with him. The following six steps should be considered inorder to correct your faulty marital foundation:
(i) Identify your foundation.
You need to ask yourself some soul-searching questions concerning your marital background:
- What kind of background do I have?
- What are the problems that are capable of affecting my marriage negatively?
- What are those things which my parents did deliberately or ignorantly to affect my marriage?
- Am I under any covenant, curse or bondage?
Spend quality time on this. It will help you to deal with all the roots of marital distress.
(ii) Confess and repent.
Confess your sins and repent wholeheartedly. Repentance will earn you a transfer from the platform of bad foundation to the level of happiness in your marriage. Failure to do so will embolden the devil to continue to use those sins as a legal weapon to strengthen your marital distress.
(iii) Embark on aggressive and well-targeted prayer.
Embark on aggressive prayers. The devil will not readily allow you to enjoy happiness in your marriage, until you subject him to repeated prayer bombardments. Therefore, invite the Lord Jesus Christ into your life, and let him rebuild your marriage. Break every curse, and release yourself from evil covenants. Pray for deliverance from marital stress and the polluting influences of anti-marriage forces.
(iv) Restitution
You need to do restitution, where necessary. This would enable you to become free completely. If you fail to do restitution, the devil will always have a case against you to maintain distress in your marriage.
Your willingness to consider the above will make you to experience all the goodness that God has programmed for your marriage.

April 28th, 2010 — causes of high blood pressure
Recent estimates have indicated that one in three adults in the USA has high blood pressure and that a third of these people are unaware of their condition. Your blood pressure is quite simply the force of the blood on the artery walls when the heart beats (systolic pressure) and when it rests between beats (diastolic pressure). The normal values are less 120 mm Hg systolic and less 80 mm Hg diastolic. If your blood pressure is 140-159 mm Hg Systolic over 90-99 mm Hg Diastolic then this is classified as High blood pressure or Hypertension.
There are many causes of high blood pressure; in 90-95% of cases the actual cause cannot be discerned. Nerve impulses cause your arteries to dilate (become larger) or contract (become smaller). If these vessels are wide open, blood can flow through easily. If they’re narrow, it’s harder for the blood to flow through them, and the pressure inside them increases. High blood pressure may occur at this point. The remaining cases high blood pressure may be caused by kidney abnormalities, an abnormality of the aorta, the narrowing of certain arteries.
Blood volume also affects blood pressure – the more blood in the body, the higher the amount of blood returning to the heart and the resulting cardiac output and higher the blood pressure. Arteries thickened by fatty tissue increase the resistance of the blood as it flows and this increased the resistance will contribute to higher the blood pressure. Other factors could also affect blood pressure like blood viscosity or stickiness. This is called your triglyceride levels. A raised triglyceride can be caused by a high alcohol or carbohydrate diet, being over weight or having poorly controlled blood sugars.
Keeping fit through a balanced diet and exercise is an important way to decrease high blood pressure. There is a direct link between rising blood pressure or hypertension and being overweight. Exercise improves the condition of the thickened arteries which helps in the treatment of high blood pressure by making the heart stronger. A stronger heart pumps more blood efficiently, which means that the heart doesn’t have to work as hard. However anyone with high blood pressure should consult a doctor before any exercise plan.
Research has also shown some evidence that exercise reduces the release of nor epinephrine, which is a hormone that raises blood pressure by constricting arteries and increasing the heart rate.
Aiming for and maintaining an ideal body weight is really important in the treatment of high blood pressure. If you are overweight or obese, ask your doctor for a referral to a dietitian who can help you make permanent, achievable changes to the way you eat to assist with weight loss.
Cutting down on your alcohol intake, is very important – as this has a significant role in boosting blood pressure. Women should limit their intake to one drink per day and men two. Smoking injures blood vessel walls and accelerates the hardening of the arteries. Although it does not directly cause even though it does not cause high blood pressure, smoking is bad for anyone, especially those with high blood pressure
Dietary changes can really contribute to the treatment of high blood pressure. In studies sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) eating plan has been shown to be effective. Essentially this plan involves consuming increased amounts of fruit and vegetables and choosing low-fat or non-fat dairy products. Studies have shown that eating fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy food and proteins as well as foods with lower saturated fat, total fat, and cholesterol, lower blood pressure and promote overall fitness. Whole grains, poultry, fish and nuts with lower fat content are good choices for the heart. Details of the DASH diet can be found at: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov
Foods with large amounts of saturated and trans fats such a fatty cuts of meat, fast food, fries, cakes and cookies should be kept to a minimum. This will also help with limiting the amount of sodium or salt in the diet. You should also try to avoid adding salt in your cooking and at the table, to limit gravy powders, salty soups and seasoning as well as salted crisps and nuts.
So why not have a go at these small changes – they really can make a difference in the treatment of high blood pressure!

I’ve been studying the effects of ibuprofen for fun and I’ve come across an apparent contradiction. Ibuprofen prevents or inhibits blood clotting, which should lower blood pressure, but at the same time it’s supposed to increase blood pressure over time. By what mechanism does this occur?
It constricts flow to the kidneys. When the kidneys get less blood, they start to think that the person is bleeding and needs to conserve salt and water. When the kidneys conserve salt and water, they (over time) increase blood pressure. The effect could take several days.
The system that regulates blood pressure over long periods of time via the kidneys is called the Renin Angiotensin Aldosterone system.

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death in the world and afflicts the young and the old alike. Diabetes means that the body does not produce or use insulin properly. Genetic factors, obesity, stress and a sedentary lifestyle are some of the causes of this disease. While Yoga cannot cure diabetes, it can complement the lifestyle changes necessary to keep diabetic symptoms in check.

Hypertension, Dizziness, Headaches, & Worsening of Vision (secondary to Vertebral Artery Syndrome) Greater Occipital Neuralgia, Neck Rehabilitative Exercises.
First, let’s quickly review how medical massage therapy affects the arterial blood pressure in patients with EH. There are three major mechanisms which massage practitioners should use to help patients with hypertension: Balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions of the autonomic nervous system, vasodilate the vertebral arteries and reduce peripheral vascular resistance. These three mechanisms are intimately correlated, hence the need to discuss them together as parts of the same process.
Vertebral arteries arise from the subclavian arteries. They ascend through the cervical vertebrae and enter the skull where they unite to form the basilar artery, supplying the posterior part of the brain. The vertebral arteries also give off two important arterial branches that supply the entire spinal cord: The anterior spinal artery and two posterior spinal arteries. The pathway of the vertebral arteries through the cervical vertebrae is quite complex. The transverse process of each cervical vertebra has a special opening called the transverse foramen through which the vertebral artery passes. Cervical vertebrae are positioned on top of one another such that these openings form a bony canal through which the vertebral arteries ascend.
The walls of vertebral arteries have their own sympathetic plexus innervation, regulating their constriction and dilation. It follows that any irritation to this plexus may result in their contraction. Even a minor facet joint subluxation, which may not even be visible by radiographic means, can produce an irritation slightly compressing the vertebral arteries. This constriction may lead to a reduced blood supply to the brain, which in turn will cause further vasoconstriction in an attempt to compensate for compromised circulation. The result is an inevitable increase in blood pressure or EH.
Other mechanisms that may cause a decrease in blood flow through the vertebral arteries are cervical spondylosis, emotional stress and physical overload of the neck and upper back muscles. As a result of these, a hypertonus develops in the cervical muscles. In order to maintain proper function, the brain’s daily perfusion has to be approximately 2,000 quarts of arterial blood. This rate is regulated by special vascular receptors in the arterial structures of the brain. Even a minor reduction in the amount of blood circulation triggers compensatory reactions such as an increased heart rate, increased cardiac output and, most importantly, an increased peripheral vascular resistance.
Peripheral vascular resistance is a major opposing force to the heart’s work. Every time the left ventricle ejects blood, the force of the cardiac contraction has to overcome the resistance of arterial vessels (especially on the level of middle-sized arteries in skeletal muscles). Thus, an increased sympathetic tone triggers arteriolar vasoconstriction, which increases peripheral vascular resistance, resulting in the heart having to work harder to pump blood.

In this video I talk about the right way to breathe when lifting weights. There is a lot of conflicting information out there and I tell it like I see it.
I’m not a doctor, but I think that high blood pressure can cause: hernias (a drag but not life threatening), burst blood vessels in the eyes (again a drag but not life threatening). The problem is that if you have any weak blood vessels, the high blood pressure can burst them and if its in your brain you die instantly. Any M.D’s out there who can correct me and lend some expertise to this???? What are the dangers of momentary high blood pressure caused by holding the breath under extreme exertion? I didnt mention any specific medical problems in this video because that is beyond my area of expertise. I will add them via annotations when I hear from some medical professionals.
