Can an increase in high blood pressure medication make a person disoriented?

This person is over 70 years old.

Hi, This is Counselor,

I have a private practice called Steps To Success Counseling
and 1 of the topics I counsel on is Mental Health.

Being in my position demands knowledge of pharmacuticles and their contraindications. I have also work in Emergency Medical Services for over 4 years.

Yes increasing the med’s can cause the low blood pressure
( Hypotension ) and with this the insufficiant blood flow does not allow the brain cells to get enough oxygen.

yes….it would be wise to monitor their blood pressure before the medication, and then anytime they seem disoriented after taking it….could be their blood pressure is going to low, monitor it and let the Dr know what your findings are.

His blood pressure could be low which could make him dizzy and disoriented – call the doctor.

I am not a doctor or nurse but I don’t think the medication should make you disoriented. Before I knew that my blood pressure was high, I found myself to be slightly disoriented, even a bit dizzy along with fatigue. I also got headaches during the night that would linger for most of the day. I went to the doctor’s and learned that some people do get a bit disoriented and dizzy from high blood pressure so I took a medication for dizziness. When my blood pressure went down I stopped taking the pill and felt fine. Don’t be left wondering. Call your doctor and monitor your pressure often until you are sure that your condition is under control. Good health.
